Is there a name for a phobia of illogical things? I was thinking about some of the stuff that illogically frightens me and realized that what they have in common is a propensity to do things with no rhyme or reason and with little regard to expected behaviour. Most of the time my reaction is anger. If, for example, a brand new car were to throw a rod and no cause for the failure could be found. I would be pissed. That makes no sense. No reason for it. But it more applies to people. Small children and mentally ill people. I can’t stand being near either. It’s not insensitivity, but the oftentimes random verbal ejaculations and nonsensical behavior results in a very strong urge to *get away*.

Interestingly this phobia doesn’t apply to disorder or entropy. Entropy is logical. Stuff returns to chaos. That makes sense. It happens for a reason. A toddler running up to me and yelling “I LOVE CHOCOLATE ICE CREAM!” is likely to freak me out a bit. It’s so out of left field and for absolutely no purpose. I had a co-worker that would be sitting there in silence and then randomly say something like “one time my cat threw up on a book” and then not speak for another ten minutes. Why? What the fuck!? Dude creeped me the hell out.

Uh, rant over I guess.

Okay, it started out at mentally ill people and ejaculations... then somehow we got to children running around yelling about chocolate ice cream. One of us is super tired.

I get it. I’m more likely to laugh at the general illogical stupidity of the moment than react though. Maybe if you are pushed deeper it will develop further into something akin to giving up on it and laughing inside.

I hate the awkward moments when you meet a person with a syndrome or brain injury, and are forced to quickly learn how to speak with them appropriately, it’s a bit harder than just trying not to talk about booze around alkies, or recovering alkies.

I get scared and it usually manifests as anger. Super fun to deal with. I just avoid putting myself in those situations when possible.

Sounds less like “illogical” and more “unpredictable”. Illogical would be a friend telling you that fade mileage is the most important thing in their car choice and them driving a Tahoe.

By definition phobias are irrational. I wouldn't call what you described phobias. Possibly an anxiety thing.

Well, phobia itself is defined as an ‘irrational fear’. The suffix ‘ia’ is for abstract female gendered nouns and ‘phob’s root comes from flight (ie you fly in fear of things). So if you twist the definition of abstract to irrational and violate word structure a bit you can get ‘iaphobe’.

I thus deem you the world's first 'iaphobe'.
